Register of Electors: Annual Canvass 2026

The Electoral Registration Officer must contact every household to check that the Electoral Register is up to date and to identify anyone who is eligible but not yet registered. The Annual Canvass has now begun in Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire and Inverclyde. We may contact you by email, telephone or letter. Emails will be from Electoral Registration RVJB and will have the subject line Register of Electors – Annual Canvass 2026.

Your place of birth does not affect your right to vote in Scottish Parliamentary and Local Government elections. If you are aged 16 or over and live in Scotland, you are eligible to vote in these elections. To vote in a Westminster Parliamentary election, you must be a British, Irish or Commonwealth citizen aged 18 or over. You must be registered before you can vote in any election.

Later in the canvass, households that have not responded may be contacted by telephone or visited at home. Please respond promptly to our initial communication to confirm your household information for electoral purposes. If you receive a paper canvass form, check the details and respond online by following the instructions at www.registersecurely.com/rvjb , or return the completed form using the envelope provided.

Any new residents added during the canvass must also complete a registration application. You can register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote, or we will send an invitation to register form for completion and return.

Remember, you must be registered before you can vote. To make sure you can have your say on decisions that affect you, keep your electoral registration details up to date.

If you have any questions, contact the Electoral Registration helpline on 0300 300 0150 or email ero@renfrewshire-vjb.gov.uk.
